Dear Host Family
My name is Giulia, I am 22 and I was born in Milan, Italy. You probably asked yourself why I want to spend 6 months on my life in Shanghai. Well, everything started a couple of years ago. After graduating from high school, I decided to study a Bachelor of Business and Marketing in Milan. Unfortunately, after my junior year I was not satisfied with the outcome. I did not like the teaching methodology and in general the environment of my university. I felt lost and instead of continuing studying I decided to take a break and do a step back to understand what was my purpose in life. For this reason, I moved to Australia to do a three months English course so that I could improve my English skills and embrace a new culture. I really enjoyed my time there it made me realized that studying as knowledge is fundamental to me so for this reason I decided to finish my last two years in Australia. Australia is where I first had the chance to get close to the Asian culture. I was fascinated from this culture, particularly the Chinese culture. Everything amazed me, from the history to the culinary, but what attracted my attention the most was the book called “The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine”. The book really inspired me to learn Mandarin and it pushed me to get closer to the Chinese culture. For this reason, after I will graduate at the end of January 2018, it is my intention to move to Shanghai to do an intensive mandarin course and, hopefully, have the opportunity to share this experience with you and your family.
Now I would like you to know a little about myself. I was born in the Dog year (1994) which by coincidence is going to be again next year! I grow up with my mother in Milan and I always had a close relationship with my aunt, uncle and grandma. However, I spend part of my life in Switzerland too due to my mother’s job. She is a scientist, she works in the clinical department of oncology to find new cure for cancer. That is pretty amazing, isn’t it? I spent most of my life studying and traveling with mother. We have a really good and close relationship. I am also very friendly and have few good friends around the world. I speak fluent English, Italian and I am pretty good in French. I love learning new languages because every time I learn something new I always tend to think different, each language has different expressions which they shape the way of thinking. Something that you might find interesting is that besides the fact that I love sports I do also love cooking. Are you for some Italian food?
I am looking forward to meeting you.
